Love You Love Your Life

Doing the dishes to have a cup of tea or …doing the dishes to do the dishes?

In his book Thich Nhat Hanh…The Miracle of Mindfulness introduces this idea…

I was pondering it this morning as I noticed the ‘fullness’ of my sink full of dirty dishes. I had crowded it out to get as much done as possible in the shortest amount of time. I had been feeling grossed out by the dirty dishes and needed to get them done!

The thought occurred to me that I have this habit of filling up my own life the same way as my dish sink…FILL IT UP..MIX IT UP…GET AS MUCH DONE AS POSSIBLE!

Considering this idea prompted me to stop doing the dishes and to leave the sink full of dirty water. I went outside. I moved into the garden and watered the lawn. Whilst I took these actions I noticed the beauty of the day, the rainbow through the water on to the grass. I took a breath and brought my self to the moment. Then…I went back to really ‘doing’ the dishes…
